The riding school has half-day (9am till 12noon) or full day camps (9am till 3pm), Monday to Friday during the school holidays which are suitable for beginners as well as more experienced riders. All riders are given experience to further their riding education. Our usual program begins with a ride around Centennial Park followed by hands on tuition within the Centennial Parklands Equestrian Grounds before lunch – this is of course weather permitting.
For the full day camp riders, following lunch is an afternoon full of hands on experience. This involves grooming, washing and general horsey handling!
Camps that fall on public holidays are half day only. You can book for one or more days or an entire week. Lunch is not provided due to individual dietary requirements. So come ride in the park with great ponies/horses – Age 5+
Pony Parties in Centennial Park
Short hand led pony rides for the very young or book ponies for a group of children for a scenic ride in Centennial Park. Hire 1 or more ponies with handler on an hourly basis, where children can have led rides on the heritage horse track within an allocated time. Please bear in mind that the ponies are not allowed to leave the track so we would advise you to choose a location close to enough to it track to make it easily accessible for all. Alternatively, choose from park rides for 30, 45 or 60 minutes for your child and their friends.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
AND GENERAL INFORMATION
What to wear? Long pants, socks, and tops (no singlets please) appropriate to the weather conditions of the day and sunscreen as we ride in the park. Boots with a flat sole and small heel. The Riding School has helmets, boots, and jackets available for use.
How long before my scheduled lesson should I arrive? 10 to 15 minutes earlier is ideal so that we can be well prepared and are able to deliver your full lesson time. Unfortunately sometimes due to circumstances outside of our control we may run late – however this will not affect the duration time of your lesson time.
From what age can my child start lessons? From 5+ – however many children start pony rides at a younger age. It is best to start lessons when your child can follow instruction and has a good level of concentration.
What do children do at Camp? Part of the day is spent in Centennial Park with usually a park ride and a lesson. Tuition is geared at an individual level and the school can cater for riders from a beginner to a more advanced level. We return to the stables for a lunch break. Children gain hands on experience with grooming, washing and horse care. Please note the routine may vary due to weather.
How many lessons do I need to learn to ride? This varies from person to person. Like any sport it takes practice and commitment and depends on the level of riding you wish to achieve. All our lessons are result driven with the aim of consistent improvement.
How are the lessons structured? We initially do an assessment lesson to gauge riding level and to horse match. As we ride in the park our lessons are mainly one hour group lessons however some run for longer.
When can I Jump? You will have mastered good riding skills i.e. trot, canter and good control of your pony or horse.
Do I need to book? Yes absolutely – so that we can provide an appropriate pony/horse and staff to look after your needs.
What if it rains? Our lessons and camps go ahead (jackets are available) – as our horses are well behaved in all weather and the Equestrian Centre has an indoor arena.
